It gives me great pleasure to invite you to join NJAVO’s 21st Annual Vocal Competition with preliminaries held 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on November 6,9,11,13, 16, 18, 20; 1:00 to 5:00 PM on November 14 and 1:00 to 6:00 PM on November 21, 2009. Finals will take place in January 2010.

The registration fee is $55 for applications received before September 30th, 2009 and $75 for applications received after September 30 and fully refundable if cancellation notice is received before October 30th, 2009. Application deadline: November 1st, 2009.

A professional accompanist will be provided to all participants at both preliminaries and final auditions. In addition, all finalists will receive extensive personal coaching on language, style, and presentation and be given the opportunity to perform in NJAVO’s fully staged upcoming productions. All applicants will be required to send a CD containing at least three arias and will be notified if they are accepted into the competition.

Johann Strauss’ DIE FLEDERMAUS started the 2009 season on April 29, 2009 concluding with Giuseppe Verdi’s UN BALLO IN MASCHERA on October 18, 2009. Presenting a new production designed by Camillo Parravicini, directed by Evelyn La Quaife and conducted by Anthony Morss. Pietro Mascagni’s ISABEAU, will open Verismo Opera 2010 season of fully staged productions on Sunday, April 18, 2010. All NJAVO’s productions are held at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (formerly John Harms Theater) in Englewood, New Jersey (www.bergenpac.org).

Past year’s judges included Licia Albanese, Martina Arroyo, Nedda Casei, Russell Christopher, Andrij Dobrianski, Elaine Malbin, Anthony Morss, Roberta Knie and myself.
